Aurora Reyes: The first Mexican muralist who deserves recognition


Aurora Reyes Flores it was the first exponent of Mexican muralism; however, little is known about her.

His work as plastic edge It was featured, although it was also poetess, activist and teacher.

He fought for social equality and firmly believed in just causes.

He lived in a time when he saw a society divided and in conflict, factors that moved and moved Reyes, to perform endearing works.

Sensitive and critical, his artistic and written pieces reveal an overwhelming personality. 

He worked on easel painting, although he excelled in the murals.

He died almost in oblivion and without due recognition, leaving a legacy that still remains. 

Muralist from a young age

 

Aurora, was born on September 9 of 1908 in Chihuahua.

Then she and her family moved to Mexico City, where they came to live in the neighborhood of La Lagunilla.

He entered the National Preparatory Schoolwhere he met Diego Rivera and Frida Kahlo, of whom she became a great friend.

Later he entered the San Carlos Academy, but soon realized that she was a complete self-taught.

He taught painting and drawing in the Ministry of Public Education (SEP).

Made seven murals among which are: Attempt to rural teachers y History of culture in Mexico.

As for poetry we can mention: The word still o The naked mask.

He was also a member of the Mexican Communist Party. From its marked themes we can appreciate motherhood, inequality and education.

The 26 of April of 1985 died and today it is recognized as the first Mexican muralist.
