El divination game dating from the fourteenth century, has blown the imagination of those who have illustrated.

Leonora Carrington, Remedios Varo and Salvador Dalí, are just some of the artists who found in the tarot a deep way of seeing life.

They add up Lady Frieda Harris, Pamela Colman Smith and Arthur Rackham, who gave meaning to the 78 Major and Minor Arcana cards.

The English refugee in Mexico maintained a close relationship with the writer and filmmaker Alejandro Jodorowsky who taught the art of tarot.

Carrington is said to have conducted his readings in the kitchen of your house in La Roma, when she was married to photographer Chiki Weiz.

The Tarot Maja, from 1965, is the work she did at the request of another of her great friends, the actress María Félix. In the painting, the Doña represents a magical figure inspired by a dream she told Carrington.  

 

Varus remedies

 Another of the artists who maintained a close relationship with Carrington and the tarot, was Varus remedies.

The Spanish studied psychoanalysis, alchemy and esotericism who moved his paintings with symbols and elements of the tarot.

Their allusions to the Arcana are constant in their dream, mystical and magical paintings.

Varo used the symbology of the cards in his works, as an alchemical platform to unveil the unconscious.  

 

Salvador Dalí

Influenced by his wife Gala's love of esotericism, Salvador Dalí, was another of the artists in illustrating the Major and Minor Arcana of the tarot.

The Catalan painter known for his esoteric and oneiric references he painted 78 mini-frames inspired by the Rider-Waite tarot images.

 

Pamela Colman Smith

Pamela Colman Smith, also known as Pixie, is one of the most recognized illustrators of the tarot.

The English artist born in 1878, is the painter of best-known mallet, the Rider-Waite.

From a very young age he became interested in theater, painting and art. Her passion for these techniques and her nomadic life made her focus on a spiritual art.  

 

Lady Frieda Harris

La English plastic artist Lady Frieda Harris, is known for having designed the Thoth tarot.

El influential occultist, writer and mystic, Aleister Crowley, asked for help to find someone to illustrate the 78 letters.

Lady Frieda Harris was chosen after two artists did not appear to carry out the project. Had 60 years when he designed the mallet influenced in occult, magical, spiritual and scientific ideas.  

 

Arthur Rackham

The famous artist of the early twentieth century, Arthur Rackham, was another of the painters who gave magic to this deck.

The illustrator of books as Peter Pan y The fairy tales of the Grimm brothers He managed to transport his readers to magical and enchanting lands.

He did the same with the fist of letters in which he transmitted to his consultants, the magical world of fairies and elves.
